Photographing Catholic weddings is always such a blessing, but it’s even more so when you are good friends with one or both of the beautiful individuals getting married. In this case, the bride, Therese, has been such a lovely, treasured friend in my life and I am so beyond honored to have captured her sacramental union to the love of her life, Martin! This Catholic wedding – with a DIY backyard reception – was definitely one for the books!
But of course, not only is Therese a great friend, but she’s also an insanely gifted creative. She is both a photographer, AND (since their wedding) has launched a FLORAL business. So it’s no surprise that with all these gifts, an insane eye for detail, and the help of family and friends, this DIY wedding was UNREAL GORGEOUS. I’m talking magazine-worthy.
Therese and Martin were gifted the use of Martin’s grandparents’ beautiful backyard for the reception of their wedding, with the nuptial mass taking place at St. Thomas the Apostle in central Phoenix. And praise the Lord, the two locations were a mere 5 minutes apart from each other! This was no average backyard reception though – Martin’s grandparents’ home is so gorgeous that it has even been featured in Phoenix magazine (see blog post about it here)…
From the design of their wedding invites (that included a marriage litany btw), to the detail of their tablescapes, to the reverence of their mass, to the PARTAAYYY that took place at the reception, the Burch wedding was #goals. One of my favorite moments, besides the mass of course, was when their family and bridal party performed a choreographed FLASH MOB for the two of them – and despite the upbeat jam that it was, there was likely no dry eye in the house. The unconditional love that was present, from all family and friends, was something to be admired and emulated.
It’s safe to say that this wedding was one I will be referencing (and likely holding up on a giant pedestal) for years to come.
